Our story
A society built for the people it serves.
DROPSS was formed in 1999 to work for the development of rural and oppressed communities in Sivaganga district. As the organisation grew, the needs of older people in these communities became impossible to ignore — particularly elders without family support or a safe place to live.
Our senior citizens' home in Karaikudi now provides a permanent, caring base for more than 25 elders. In 2012 we became an implementing partner for the National Action Plan for Senior Citizens, which helps us meet the cost of food, care and basic amenities.
What makes the home work is not only the funding. It is the daily presence of a care team, the volunteers who give their Sundays, and the neighbours who treat our residents as part of the community.

Our vision
A rural society where growing older does not mean growing isolated, and every elder has a place to belong.
What guides us
Values we try to practise, not just publish.
These principles shape how we care for people, spend money and work with families and partners.
Belonging
We build a home where residents are known, not merely looked after.
01Service
Our Sunday volunteers embody the idea that care is a shared responsibility.
02Health
Food, movement, medical attention and rest are treated as one connected whole.
03Respect
Every elder's habits, belongings and choices are treated with care.
04Milestones
A story told in years.
Not everything that matters can be measured. But these moments mark the road that brought us here.
